Blanket consisted of a group of artists and writers who (under the cover of Blanket) attempted to inject some humour into what was seen as a dour, stuffy and bureaucratic art community. Blanket exhibited between 1989 and 1996 and described themselves as “an entirely self-supported organization which continues to lie comfortably on the fringe of the Toronto gallery scene. We do not apply for shows unless we are sure we will get them nor do we fill out forms. Yes, we actually just make art.” The members of Blanket included John Atkinson, Michael Balser, Anne Marie Beneteau, Calere Boudreau, Gary McLeaod, Gwen MacGregor, Earl Miller, Marilyn Nazar, Brian Piitz, David Renau and Giselle Trudel.
