DIVERSE CITY
The Diverse City exhibition took place in 1992 at 1400 Dupont St. in Toronto. From their catalogue: “The Diverse City project brings together 26 emerging artists of different race, class, gender, sexuality, age, and cultural background. We have a shared history in the same era of formal education and art world concerns – that of late 80’s, early 90’s, Toronto. Our process allows for difference and inclusivity, without specific forms of difference determining the content of the exhibition – difference is represented in this project by the composition of the group and the variety of art practices it includes. Above all, our work itself brings us together; in its diversity, it is not only a response to the conditions we’ve been nurtured in as artists, but is an ephemeral map of our present, shifting terrain.”
